Zoning Guides

The following guides breakdown the tools and basic components of zoning into easily digestible pieces. Follow our blog for weekly additions to these guides. We started with Pittsburgh’s interactive zoning map, which is the best starting point when launching a project that involves zoning in the city. Currently, we are building out the guide to Pittsburgh’s zoning districts. We expect that it will take about a year to complete this guide given the number of different districts in the city. After the districts, we will move on to Pittsburgh’s reviewers and their roles then the zoning code itself.

This guide provides an overview of Pittsburgh’s interactive zoning map. This map is the starting point for any project that requires zoning review. It identifies the zoning district for each location in Pittsburgh as well as any overlays that may add additional regulations, processes, and fees. Follow the links to each layer to learn how that layer interacts with zoning and what the additional regulations, processes, and fees may be.

This guide provides an overview of Pittsburgh’s zoning districts. After identifying a site’s zoning district, follow the link to that district to learn its basic use and density regulations as well as common challenges. We are in the process of building out this guide. Follow our blog to keep informed as we add each district’s information.
